Building Bridges
The G2G Rail Trail is on the verge of a major milestone: the Conestogo River bridge will be construction-ready by January–February 2026. This bridge, if built, would finally connect over 80 km of trail, improve safety, and open new opportunities for local tourism.
Thanks to a past G2G board member's generous pledge of $3 million, a significant portion of the funding is in place. However, there is still a $4 million funding gap, and at this time, sources to cover it have not been secured. Without closing this gap, construction cannot move forward. Your continued interest, advocacy, and support will be vital as we explore solutions to close this gap and make this important connection along the trail a reality.

Blyth Tunnel Restoration Project
In accordance with our vision to develop and maintain a safe and accessible G2G Rail Trail Experience, we're excited to announce a significant milestone: the construction of the Blyth Tunnel has been completed.
Located just West of Blyth, ON, this tunnel, which once ran under Rd 25, was backfilled after the decommissioning of the CP Rail Line many years ago. As a result, our users had to navigate a steep and bumpy gravel path, crossing over a busy road, to continue their G2G Rail Trail Experience.
Our goal is now a reality. This completed project eliminates a major safety barrier, ensuring that current and future generations can enjoy the trail without obstacles.
How Can You Help?
- Donate – our major projects require significant donations by individuals. Only we can make our trail barrier-free.
- Advocacy – make sure your local representatives and service clubs know about the value that the G2G Rail Trail adds to your community and to Ontario.
- Outreach – inform friends, relatives, and business associates about the bridge projects and what a difference they will make to the trail.
- Networking – pass along any suggestions of individuals or organizations we should approach to help finish these projects.
- Volunteer – our trial advisory committees need your help to keep the trail groomed and maintained for all users.

Why a Capital Project Matters
- Maintains continuity of the inclusive, safe trail experience that has attracted international attention and a wide range of users from across Ontario and beyond.
- Eliminates a barrier for mobility devices, recumbent bikes, children, e-bikes, bikepackers, the elderly, etc.
- Supports tourism, cultural, economic development and public health initiatives.
- Enhances the practicality of regional active transportation and keeps cyclists on the trail right of way.
- Extends seasonal recreational use for skiing, snowshoeing, fat bikes, etc.
- The legacy of these projects will continue to benefit future generations.
- With the restoration of the 3 major railway bridges, the 132 km corridor will offer walking, cycling, and barrier-free passage to all.
The Past and Future
The G2G Rail Trail is currently raising funds for major capital projects, including the installation of new bridges over the Grand, Maitland, or Conestogo Rivers, with special recognition for donations over $25,000.
Previous investments, such as the Blyth Tunnel Restoration, Project Red Trail Resurfacing and the installation of the Millbank bridges, have enhanced accessibility and safety, underscoring the ongoing commitment to improving the trail's infrastructure and visitor experience. These initiatives reflect a dedication to preserving the trail's natural beauty while fostering community engagement and sustainable recreational opportunities.
